Catherine McHugh Engstrom

Catherine McHugh EngstromCathy McHugh Engstrom has served the Student Affairs profession and ACPA over twenty years. She held administrative posts at three universities over a ten year period, and since 1993 she has been a professor in the Student Affairs professional preparation programs at Virginia Tech and Syracuse University. She is currently Associate Professor and the Coordinator of the Master’s program in Higher Education at Syracuse.

Dr. Engstrom is the author of over twenty articles and book chapters. Most recently she has written and presented on learning communities and on partnerships between student and academic affairs to promote student learning. She has served in several leadership roles in the Commission on Graduate Preparation Programs in Student Affairs, including that of Chair. She served two terms on the Editorial Board of the Journal of College Student Development. Most recently she was elected Chair of ACPA’s Core Council on the Generation and Dissemination of Knowledge. Cathy’s colleagues describe her as an “outstanding mentor and friend” who always “tells it like it is.”
