Dr. John C. Hernandez

Dr. John C. HernandezDr. John C. Hernandez has served as Associate Vice President and Dean of Students at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona since 2002. He received his Ph.D. in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Maryland in 1999.

His research interests have focused on the issues that impact Latino college student retention, with a particular emphasis on exploring the first year experience of Latino college students. In 2004, ACPA recognized him for his contributions to the literature of the field by presenting him with the Association’s Emerging Scholar Award.

John is also an incredible mentor to many young professionals, giving generously of his time and talents on their behalf. In 2000, as a recognition of these and many other outstanding contributions to the field, the Latino Network of the Standing Committee for Multicultural Affairs created a Leadership Award in his name, to honor Latino student affairs administrators who have emulated John’s leadership style.

John is also the recipient of ACPA’s Annuit Coeptis Emerging Professional Award and the Outstanding Service Award from the Standing Committee for Multicultural Affairs.
